Augusta Iron & Steel Works, Inc. (AISW) was founded in 1948 from the purchase of Lombard Iron Works in downtown Augusta, Georgia. AISW continued the Lombard's heavy, industrial fabrication until the birth of the interstate system in the 1950s. The company recognized a growth industry and AISW moved into the bridge fabrication business, eventually building a second plant in Martinez, Georgia for additional capacity. Today, AISW operates out of its Martinez plant, fabricating steel plate girders and beams for bridges primarily in the Southeastern United States. The company has thrived by consistently manufacturing a quality product and exceeding customer expectations.
