Town Council
The Town of Brunswick has implemented significant changes in the Town's curbside rubbish and recycling collection program that began the week of January 22, 2007. How the programs work is explained below. Please refer back to this page periodically as we will continuously update the list of vendors selling the Brunswick bags. The purpose of the changes to the rubbish and recycling programs is to encourage and expand our recycling program; make residents who generate more rubbish per week pay their fair share and, most importantly, help extend the life of the Town owned landfill on Graham Road. We project our landfill has a maximum life of 15 years presently and we expect to see the landfill life extended to almost 25 years with the implementation of the pay by the bag program and the expanded recycling program. First Three Month Results Are In: Preliminary numbers on the impact of the new programs are in and indicate the goals and projections are being achieved. For curbside rubbish collected by Pine Tree Waste we saw a drop of approximately 44 percent in the tonnage of trash curbside. For the single stream curbside program we saw an increase of 55 percent by weight in the amount of recycling collected curbside from the prior week. Congratulations and thank you to all for your great effort and helping us get immediate positive results.
