Homestead Hope Counseling Services, LLC is dedicated to meeting the counseling and or therapeutic needs of those who desire change. It opened its doors in June 2006 under the name of Homestead Hope, Inc. Originally providing home study services for kinship, foster care and adoptive families, the organization progressed over the years to provide other services useful to many different people groups. Therapy and psychoeducaton is now the mainstay of activity at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, LLC. All services provided by our counselors and instructors are invariably entwined with personal faith in God, more specifically Jesus Christ. Core to our counseling theory is man's relationship with God. Our goal and responsibility as counselors is to guide clients toward self evaluation and necessary change. Change is paramount to continued wellness. Without it, counseling is useless. All those involved in the counseling process must be aware however, that change does not normally happen quickly. In fact, 'real change' typically comes slowly. People are able to choose change - as an act of their will, but the actual differences in attitude, behavior, spirituality and overall mental health will undoubtedly take time. If God is, in fact, expected to intercede in a given situation we must then trust Him to do so in His own timing; not ours. Yet all the while, the client is responsible to take decisive personal actions to actuate the change. God does not carry a magic wand. He works in our lives as we give Him latitude. He will not force Himself on any of us. But as we obey, surrender and commit each area of our selves, He will involve Himself in order for His own will to be carried out in our lives. We include the counselor in this process of change, as we are not immune to the same challenges that face our patients / clients. In our view, change is a three way cooperative effort. A faith-based, Christ centered counselor has the opportunity to meet the client where he is, and assist him in making some sense of his circumstances. The counselor is able to shed the objective light of scripture onto a situation which is able to illuminate the hidden issues. It is the Holy Spirit who actually illuminates but it is the counselor and client who must recognize the issues for what they are. The client is then able to use his cognitive skills to address the issues and purpose to do something about them. Continued progression is dependent upon each of the three contributors doing their part whole heartedly. Please be aware, that even though we are faith based, Christ centered counselors, we will not 'force feed' our personal faith upon any one; nor will we expect a client to change their faith system to appease us or any one else. We work with and respect all individuals regardless of their faith, or the lack thereof. In turn however, we expect clients to render us the same freedom and courtesy.
