National Stop Smoking Centres
The Foundation is named for the late Dr Richard Mackarness, who was a leading specialist National Health Service Consultant in the UK. He developed cutting-edge techniques for controlling addiction, at Basingstoke District General Hospital. He subsequently went on to establish the Pleasant View Clinic for addiction, for the State of Victoria Health Commission in Melbourne. The Foundation was established in 1991, initially to provide Dr Mac's clinical treatment for smoking cessation. Since then, we have gone on to provide hypnotherapy and acupuncture for smoking cessation as well, under our National Stop Smoking Centres banner. We are the largest private provider of such therapy in the UK, with more than 250 branch therapists throughout the country. The Foundation now also provides hypnotherapy online, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced us to look for an alternative way to help smokers. Subsequent to launching this in the UK, we have now launched the same service in Israel, for English-speaking smokers.
