Toronto Lawn Tennis Club
For over 130 years, The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club in the heart of Rosedale, in midtown Toronto has been one of the premier tennis clubs in Canada and occupies a prominent place in history and evolution of tennis in the country. In 1881 the Club was the site of Canada's first official International Tennis Championship, won by Isidore Hellmuth, one of the Club's earliest and keenest members. This was the beginning of an association with high-calibre lawn tennis, which continues today. Over the years, the Club has hosted hundreds of National events and scores of International Championships where some of the greatest names in the game - Newcombe, Roche, Laver, Ashe, Borg, Navratilova, Connors, Evert - have graced the courts. In 1960, The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club expanded its facilities to include squash and to become a year-round racquet club. Recently, the Club underwent a major development. Today, it includes a Pro Shop, four indoor clay tennis courts (bringing the total number of courts to 18), a doubles squash court, new fitness facilities, massage room, wellness services and underground parking. There is also an area in the Club dedicated to a children's daycare and junior lounge. These new facilities enhance the already existing tennis courts, three international squash courts, outdoor pool, fine indoor and outdoor dining, licensed bar, café and banquet facilities. The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club has dedicated itself to providing the highest level of tennis programs and facilities for serious and recreational players alike, as well as committing itself to offering an expanding range of sports and social programs to suit the evolving needs of members of all ages. Whether it's keeping fit in the modern sports facilities, getting a massage, finding a cozy corner to repose in, a sunny summer patio overlooking the pool, or an elegant dining experience, this is a place for everyone to find their niche - it is truly an oasis of both activity and relaxation for members and their families. Much more than its 18 tennis courts, The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club is proud of its record in building a true year-round community for families and friends to call their home away from home.
