Dr. Bates was raised in North East, Maryland at the head of the Chesapeake Bay surrounded by Elk Neck State Park. She was involved extensively in sports while in high school and college, competing in swimming both at the YMCA and YWCA Nationals and NCAA Division III Nationals, played softball in high school winning the state championship in her junior year and played field hockey on the varsity team also in high school. Dr. Bates went to Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania earning a B.A. in biology. Dr. Bates worked as a park ranger for the Maryland State Forest and Park Service for 15 years in Gunpowder Falls State Park. After experiencing a back injury during that time and experiencing the benefits of chiropractic, Dr. Bates decided to change careers, to pursue becoming a chiropractor and to help others experience the benefits of chiropractic. Dr. Bates graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri in 2009. She completed her internship at St. Peters Health Clinic in St. Peters, Missouri and was a clinician's assistant at St. Patrick's Health Center, where chiropractic care is provided as a community service to patients without access to other health care. Dr. Bates has specialized in a gentle, effective and specific chiropractic technique called Activator Methods and is currently Advanced Proficiency Rated. During her internship, Dr. Bates had excellent success with some chronic and unresolved conditions such as fibromyalgia, arm, leg, back, wrist, knee and foot pain, and frozen shoulder. One patient a 34 year old single mom with debilitating pain in both her ankles and feet for four years duration, which persisted after consulting several other doctors, became a chiropractic patient for the first time. Within a month, she said that "she felt like she was walking on clouds" and stated being able to enjoy hour walks with her kids and accomplish different jobs around the house. Dr. Bates finds it a privilege to help others restore their ability to enjoy living. Dr. Bates would especially like to help people know the benefits of prevention through chiropractic at a young age allowing more to escape unnecessary pain and suffering. Dr. Bates has also specialized in whole food nutrition and looks forward to helping patients achieve their health goals. Dr. Bates looks forward serving those in the Baltimore and Harford Counties with gentle effective chiropractic care. She also looks forward to enjoying the surrounding recreational opportunities. In her spare time, Dr. Bates enjoys the outdoors hiking and gardening, being involved with her local church, enjoying different ethnic foods and spending time with extended family. Dr. Bates is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the Maryland Chiropractic Asociation, the Perry Hall White Marsh Business Association,Harford Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce.
