ACM Esportes
Associacao Crista de Moços (ACM) is a Brazilian and Portuguese branch of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), an organization founded on June 6, 1844, in London by a young man named George Williams. At the time the goal was to offer young people who arrived in London on business, an alternative to street life, encouraging the practice of Christian principles as taught by Jesus Christ through Bible study and prayer. The purpose of the YMCA was unusual at the time because it proposed a break in the rigid separation between Christian denominations and social classes that outlined the English society of the time. This openness would become a distinction to characterize the association, willing to inclusion of any man, woman, or child, regardless of race, religion or nationality. The emphasis on the social contact has also been a feature since the beginning of the association. Currently, ACM adopts a multidisciplinary approach, aiming at the spiritual, intellectual and physical development.
