AEIOU offers a program that develops the skills of the child in the following areas:Social interaction and play skillsCognitive developmentSelf-help/tasks of everyday lifeCommunicationSensory integrationFine and gross motor skills The program is individualised and tailored to meet the specific needs of each child and family. Comprehensive assessments are undertaken prior to acceptance into the program, and each child has their program reviewed on a weekly basis. A group of specialist practitioners including teachers, an occupational therapist and a speech pathologist are involved in every child's program. Staff will work with families to ensure that learning is carried from the educational setting into the childs home environment. The children participate in a combination of small group activities and one-on-one time with staff. The small groups join together for meal times, and some free play. Features of the program include:Reduction of challenging behaviours, involving a process of assessment and positive behavioural support.Tasks promoting academic, self-help, and motor skills.Communication and language skills, including expressive, receptive, and pragmatic.Social interaction and appropriate play, joint attention, and relationship development. Routine and predictability are ensured through the use of visual supports, structured activities and consistency. Small group activities, to develop peer interaction skills. One-on-one work to encourage specific skill development. Larger group tasks to give children experience in this social environment. Home visits and parent education workshops to assist in the development of home-school collaboration and consistency across settings.
