AEROTHAI operates as the International Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN Center) for Thailand. Responsibilities involve the transmission, reception and relaying of flight plans which contain aircraft call signs, routes, reporting points, altitudes, airspeed, destinations, etc., NOTAM, en-route weather information and other information necessary to ensure convenient and safe air travel. AEROTHAI's AFTN Center is one of the main AFTN Centers for the Asia-Pacific Region. The Center has direct connections with AFTN Center in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh, Vientiane, Yangon, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Dhaka, Phnom Penh, Siemriep, Rome. The Center also operates as the OPMET Data Bank (Operational Mereorological Data Bank) which compiles and exchanges OPMET information between 11 stations in the network (Don Muang, Chiang Mai, U-Tapao, Hat Yai, Phuket, Vientiane, Rangoon, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Danang and Phnom Penh), as well as 7 other main OPMET Centers (Hong Kong, Jakarta, Colombo, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, and Kuala Lumpur). AEROTHAI's AFTN Center is also the international gateway for the exchange of aeronautical information with other centers in the worldwide network. The Center uses an Automatic Message Switching System designed and manufactured by AEROTHAI's engineers. The system has been continually developed to enhance its performance. The introduction of the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network or ATN, combining such state of the art communication technology as satellites, digital data transmission and computer networks enables quick and reliable communication in accordance with the policy laid out by ICAO. Furthermore, AEROTHAI is responsible for the verification of flight plans, NOTAM publication, providing Aerodrome Terminal Information Services (ATIS) as well as the provision of navigation charts. AEROTHAI has set up the AEROTHAI Satellite Network (AERONET), to support the Air Traffic Control Service, Aeronautical Communication Service and other related services. The base station is located at the Head Office with remote stations at various airports throughout the country. The Star Network provides voice and data communication via Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and Multi Channel Per Carrier (MCPC), allowing accurate communications at the highest speed.
