Africa International Club

Africa International Club Rwanda (AIC Rwanda) encourages people from around the world and from all walks of life to engage with one another as friends, participate in local activities together and most importantly to help fund grass roots development projects in Rwanda. AIC Rwanda is a fun loving group of people from all over the world, whose shared experience of living in Rwanda brings them together. Making friends, supporting each other and working together for the greater good are our priorities. We are committed to helping the development initiatives of local people where they best see the need and within our means. From September to June, each month, we come together over coffee, at social gatherings or outings and pool our collective resources and energy twice a year for two major fundraising events; the Food Fair and Christmas Bazaar, which are now something to watch out for in Kigali. The coffee mornings - hosted in a member's home it's a great place to catch up with friends every month, to network, and to make new friends! This is where you can find out all you ever wanted to know about living in Kigali! What's the best school? Good places to eat, the best doctor/dentist, which pharmacy sells children's advil, and a whole lot more. You will also find out about what's happening in AIC Rwanda, get to know what members do and maybe find out something new about the local scene from guest speakers. The social evenings - again a lovely way to meet new people and have some fun. These evenings are hosted in member's homes or we will gather somewhere for dinner or enjoy an activity together like a movie, bowling or Trivial Pursuit. Outings - every month we go to surprising and interesting places. Our Executive Committee works hard to source a variety of different experiences for us. In this way we get to know the people and the city in which we live, as well as the culture and have some real insights into what goes on here. We have been to schools; women's cooperatives; furniture factories; jewellery making cooperatives; coffee and tea plantations; Gatagara the pottery village; King Faisal Hospital; beautiful gardens and so much more. We pool transport and go as a group so there is no need to worry about having a car! Our special events - we have special events throughout the year for celebrations of Valentine's Day, St Patricks, Easter, Mid-year, Halloween, Christmas... if you have an idea please let us know, because we love a good 'knees up'! Our BIG events - every year we organise two big events, the Christmas Bazaar and Food Fair which take an enormous amount of planning and attract large numbers, 1,000+ people usually. We have everyone pitching in, working as a team to raise as much as we can for our small grants fund. The hard work is lightened by fun and laughter as well as the knowledge it is for a very worthy cause. Our sponsors agree and we have many who share our desire to help others. Sponsorships - All of the money we raise goes to support small scale local projects. These projects tell their own stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for others in need; orphans, street kids, refugees, children and adults with disabilities, victims of abuse and chronic illnesses, literacy & other education programs, development & self sufficiency programs, environmental awareness, water projects. Amazing work is being done and AIC Rwanda is privaledged to be able to play a small part through the generosity of our own members and sponsors. When we organise an outing or special event all members give a small donation, usually RWF 2000 per person. When we organise a big event like our FOOD FAIR, we try to get as much donated as possible so that almost every cent goes to our Small Grants Committee which administers the 'good things' we do. None of our members are salaried, we have no paid or subsidised staff, but we have a lot of people with good hearts and huge generosity of spirit. So, be the change you want to see! - come and join in... or if you want to organise something, you would be most welcome... start an interest group, we are always up for some fun!
