Alderney Electricity

Alderney's six year goal drought in the Muratti competition was finally brought to an end this weekend when the team put two away during a semi final clash against Jersey. It was the first time Alderney had scored two goals in a Muratti semi final since 1961. Jersey raced to a 7-0 lead in the first half of the match for the Muratti vase, played as usual on Alderney's home turf. But Alderney players managed to score twice two in the second half with Jersey managing to bag two more, leaving the final score at 9-2. After an evenly matched start the home team went on to take something of a battering in the first half, not helped by gusty wind against them. Three goals were pounded into the Alderney net in the 13th, 14th and 17th minutes, by Luke Watson, Craig Russell scoring in the 13th and 14th minutes and Alderney's Jason Atkins helping them net a third. Luke Watson added a second goal to his tally later in the first half and team mate Jamie Savory also scored two, bagging the 5th and 6th goals.
