Alnwick Playhouse

Alnwick Playhouse is firmly established as one of the leading small venues in the North of England. It is a wonderful and vibrant arts centre, and a remarkably strong and valuable part of the community. Our mission is to enrich the life of the community through diverse, inspiring cultural experiences. We achieve this by providing a rich and balanced mix of professional touring drama, music, dance and film of the highest quality, and we strive to produce an educational and outreach programme seeking to promote the arts in every corner of the Alnwick District. The Playhouse hosts its very own Youth Theatre group for which approximately 135 children aged 7-15 from the Alnwick District participate every Sunday, and mounts a total of six annual Youth Theatre productions all performed on the Playhouse stage and well attended. Local schools and community groups such as the Stage Musical Society, Theatre Club, Community Choir and Community Concert Band also regularly use The Playhouse facilities for rehearsals and performances. In addition to our core programme of artistic performances scheduled generally five or six evenings per week, we host daytime meetings and activities for local groups including Mat Makers, Writers Group, Stitching Together, Dance Workshops and Shadowdance. The Playhouse also hosts 'The Bondgate Gallery' which runs a continuous programme of 8-10 Art Exhibitions throughout the year. The Playhouse Trust is grateful for financial support from Northumberland County Council and Arts Council England. We also receive regular donations from Town and Parish Councils and a range of Charitable Trusts.
