Antamina

Antamina operates in an area of low economic and environmental standards and is deemed a friendly and collaborative partner with the communities and populations in its environment. It therefore applies a model of openness and transparency in its relations, as well as on environmental and social issues. The Conchucos area, the mine's immediate environment, is a remote area of Peru that was at the mercy of terrorist violence in the decade of the eighties and it never had access to a development process. This is the reality that with effort and teamwork, Antamina seeks to transform and improve. We believe that we must combine our business objectives with the aspirations and hopes of the communities near our operations. For this reason we implement consultation and communication processes as indispensable tools in building relationships with the community. We seek to improve the lives of our neighbors, both in health and education, infrastructure and economic development, while always acting responsibly, working together, and seeking the active participation of the Government, NGOs and, above all, the community. Our sphere of influence goes beyond the Conchucos area. It extends to Huaraz, where the El Pinar urban development is found; Huallanca, where the electrical power substation is located. It also extends to Huarmey for its construction of the mining port, the Fortaleza Valley and other towns through which the ore pipeline passes. Antamina makes a great effort to sustainably develop the environment, always assuming the role of facilitator, of a strategic partner, -avoiding any kind of paternalism,- and by providing the necessary tools so that communities themselves are the protagonists of their development and of improvements in their quality of life.
