The establishment was also aimed at providing quick and accurate responses to such trends as the growing internationalization, the convergence of telecommunications and broadcasting, and the need to promote radio wave use in business. ARIB was chartered by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications as a public service corporation on May 15, 1995. Its activities include those previously performed by the Research and Development Center for Radio System (RCR) and the Broadcasting Technology Association (BTA). On April 1, 2011 ARIB renewed its organization under the provisions of the General Incorporated Association and General Incorporated Foundations Act.
