ATELIER NEW YORK ARCHITECTURE

Since 1997, Atelier New York Architecture has designed and built a variety of class A office buildings, commercial and residential interior renovations, and unique houses in Japan and the United States. The fusion of Japanese and Western aesthetics has been a driving force in numerous design projects. Through this work, Atelier has established a dynamic and formidable presence in both commercial and residential design. The studio atmosphere of the firm promotes experimentation and creative thought. A diverse staff from around the world and frequent visiting interns enables the environment to stimulate a dialogue of current thoughts and ideas. Ken Hudes, Principal received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Tulane University and his Masters of Architecture from UCLA. Ken also attended the Architectural Association in London, England, where he studied for a year under Will Alsop. While at UCLA, Ken completed his thesis under the direction of Daniel Libeskind and studied under 2005 Pritzker recipient Thom Mayne. Through work with corporate architectural firms in the US and Japan, including SOM and Nikken Sekkei, he has acquired extensive architectural experience pertaining to institutional and large-scale commercial design projects. Before founding Atelier, Ken worked for one of metropolitan New York's largest developers, Reckson Associates, where he gained invaluable first-hand knowledge of the local architectural and construction markets. In addition, Ken has served as a visiting critic at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan, as well as UCLA and Columbia University. Tony Chin received his Bachelors of Arts in Interior Design from the Malaysian Institute of Art. He gained substantial exposure to commercial and financial institutional needs with the international interior design firm Designphase. His design emphasizes the creation of practical working spaces and corporate identity through design aesthetics. This is seen in successfully completed projects for companies such as R.J. Reynolds, Reuters, American Express, and Aetna Insurance. Meghna Gilani received her Bachelor of Architecture in Bombay, India in 2002. Her professional experience began at The Inside Job, a high end interior architecture firm in Bombay. She was a partner at Studio04, a design collaborative founded with the intent of experimenting with all aspects of the design profession i.e. architecture, interiors, furniture, graphic and product design. Having been trained under a practical lens, her pursuit for exploring the design profession led to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she received her Master of Architecture degree. Her philosophy of amalgamating practicality and design is deeply influenced by her architectural training and guided by her experimental attitude. Tomas Korb received his Master in Architecture from the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic in 2005. That same year, Tomas set up a design studio named Korb Architects in Prague. Through his firm, he worked in collaboration with the largest civil engineering firm in the Czech Republic, Pragoproject A.S. Tomas recently completed work on the service buildings that support the security and infrastructure functions for the Horelica tunnel project in Slovakia. The project was awarded best technical and architectural work in 2002 -2004. He also completed a variety of residential projects in Prague that gained Landmark status from the local government. From the beginning of his career, Tomas has successfully satisfied all aesthetic and functional needs of his clients .i.e. the state institutions of the Czech Republic, Czech State, regional authorities, The city of Prague, etc. Tomas Korb is currently working on several projects in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and New York. Stephanie Thomas received her Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. In 2006, she traveled with Pratt Institute and other New York architecture schools to New Orleans to help in the reconstruction effort. At Pratt, her designs focused on sustainable, pre-fabricated housing units for the neighborhood of New Orleans East, which will serve as a model block for the reconstruction and planning of greater New Orleans. Outside of architecture her main interests include photography, snowboarding, reading, gardening and cooking.
