Affiliated Veterinary Specialists

Established in 1992, AVS is the only veterinary specialty hospital of its kind in Central Florida and one of only four of its kind in the state. It offers access to highly-trained, board-certified veterinary specialists in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery and radiology, serving more than 5,000 new patients each year. AVS works in close partnership with general practice veterinarians throughout Central Florida. All clients must be referred by their family veterinarian. Providing care 24 hours a day and seven days a week for hospitalized patients, the AVS medical team is larger than that of some major universities and encompasses approximately 95 employees, including both doctors and staff. The specialty animal hospital provides fluoroscopy, endoscopy and ultrasound services, and also features several unique pieces of equipment, including one of only five computed tomography (CT) scanners in Florida and the first fully digital radiography in the state. AVS recently completed a significant expansion to enhance the level of care available to its clients, including the new physical therapy program as well as the first MRI in Florida specifically used for pets, providing quicker, more convenient access to this critical diagnostic tool. The medical team has also added radiation treatment through one of only three linear accelerators in the state and an additional operating room, bringing the total number available at AVS to four.
