Baku Steel Company established as the first private enterprise in the heavy industry of Azerbaijan Republic is also the first modern steelworks in the Caucasus region. The National National leader Heydar Aliyev, who attended opening ceremony on June 21, 2001, highly appreciated the significance of the plant: "Foundation of such steel plant with allocation of foreign investment in the private sector of Azerbaijan serves a good example of consistent policy pursued by the government". For 10 years of continuous progress the company has been highly ranked in the economy of the country: it is among the largest tax-payers and employers of the non-oil sector, it contributes to the environment by using recycled metal scrap. Enjoying achievements of economic policy provided by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan Republic, Baku Steel Company strives to hold the lead of rebuilding process that takes place in the Republic. In particular, during last two years most of reconstruction and re-development in the metallurgy sector have been associated with the company, while its products, as Azeri brands, have gained good reputation among neighboring countries thanks to their quality.
