Big River Enterprises

Started in 1955 as "Holmes Food Mart", now known as "Big River Enterprises", has been owned and operated by the same family for over 50 years! E. L. "Whitey" Holmes, the founder of "Holmes Food Mart" first started at the Shell Oil Refinery in Norco, La in 1943. He worked for Shell until 1953. In 1950 he owned a Shell Service Station in Norco on the Airline Highway. On October 1, 1955, Mr. Holmes became a Shell Jobber for the East Bank of St. Charles Parish, and St. James and St. John the Baptist Parishes. Today "Big River Enterprises" proudly operates convenient locations throughout South Louisiana. We pride ourselves in being locally owned with local employees selling a product that is made right here in our very own River Parish community. While our office is based in Norco, we have stores located in St. Charles, St. John, St. James, Ascension, and Livingston Parishes. We have been exclusively a Shell gasoline distributor since our inception and we strive to provide quality products through clean, modern retail outlets at the best possible prices. We also try to make sure your money stays here in the local community by only hiring local employees and giving to local charities and organizations.
