Blaine Richardson

Blaine Richardson has deep roots in the State of Maine. His family traveled from Denmark and settled here in 1634. He received his early education at Brandywine High School in Wilmington, Delaware and went on to study Biology at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. During the Vietnam War, Blaine heard the call to serve his Country and answered, enlisting in the United States Navy and swearing an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. In 1974, Blaine graduated from the Naval Flight School and served for 30 years, in both active and reserve duty, retiring with the rank of Captain. Blaine served in three more conflicts: Haiti, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. During Desert Storm, Blaine's unit was the first to be called up and he was responsible for shipping General Schwarzkopf the 7th Corps. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Blaine served as the Military Liaison Officer for the Military Sealift Command at Scott Air Force Base. He was responsible for 216 ships that made hundreds of port calls and delivered over 20 million tons of cargo to Kuwait and Iraq. Blaine served as the US Naval Liaison Officer to the State of Maine during the terms of Governors McKernan and King. Governor McKernan appointed Blaine to the P-2 committee to oversee the DEP's implementation of hazardous chemical and waste reduction regulations. After retiring from the Navy, Blaine became involved in a variety of small businesses. As a trained botanist, Blaine worked for ten years in his family-owned greenhouse business in Rockport, and has also enjoyed restoring antique clocks. He then served as a code enforcement officer for the Town of Rockport. In 2000, he moved to Belfast, Maine and started the B. Richardson Company, a construction company that builds fine coastal homes. Blaine enjoys spending time with his wife Laura, and their dogs and chickens.
