Bogasari

Bogasari is an Indonesian wheat flour producer having a production capacity of 3.6 million tons per year, the largest in the world in a single location. The history of Bogasari began on 29 November 1971 with the official opening of the first factory in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. The second factory began operations only one year later in Tanjung Perak, Surabaya on 10 July 1972. For nearly three decades, Bogasari has been serving the food needs of the Indonesian people with its three widely known brands of wheat flour: Cakra Kembar, Kunci Biru and Segitiga Biru. These three products are widely used by the noodle, bread and general baking industries, by large and small scale industries as well as households. In addition, Bogasari also produces by-products in the form of bran, pollard for cooperatives and the animal feed industry, and industrial wheat for the plywood industry. Other than its two wheat flour factories, Bogasari also owns three other divisions: the Pasta Division and two subsidiaries, the Packaging (formerly the Textile Division) and the Maritime Divisions. The Pasta Division factory was established in December 1991 with a capacity of 60,000 metric tons per year. It produces "Long Pasta" and "Short Pasta", 80% of which is targeted for export markets. The Bogasari Packaging Division was established in 1977 in Citeureup, West Java to provide the calico bags for packaging the flour products from the two factories. Meanwhile, in order to ensure the steady supply of wheat, the Maritime Bogasari Division operates three ships for transporting wheat and three barges for inter-island service. These vessels have all received the international AMVER rating (Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue). Other than sophisticated wheat milling facilities, Bogasari also have several facilities for technical support, both for proprietary and public interests, such as a laboratory, ports [jetty], a Milling Training Center and a Baking Training Center. The laboratory is completed with modern equipment for carrying out analytical tests of the quality of wheat and flour as well as for the research and development of new products. The factory in Jakarta has two ports, one of which was finished in 1997 and ranks among the best in the world, being able to accommodate Panamax size vessels; the Surabaya factory has one port. These three can also not only provide loading and unloading services for wheat flour but for all kinds of grain commodities. The Milling Training Center is a training center for both internal and external apprentice millers. Other facilities benefiting the public are the Bogasari Baking Training Center, which is dedicated to anyone who wishes to learn about baking methods, for example, how to make bread, cakes, biscuits or noodles. In addition to the Jakarta Training Center, which started in 1981, there are baking centers in Surabaya (1996) and Bandung (1999), followed in other locations, which all together now have around 20,000 alumni. Since September 2003, Bogasari obtained ISO 9001:2000 certificate and also HACCP food safety certificate by SGS Indonesia in January 2002. Bogasari was also awarded OHSAS 18000 (Occupational Health And Safety Assessment Standard) by Sucofindo in November 2004. Bogasari became a division of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur on 30 June 1995.
