Byoearth
Working with Byoearth was one of the highlights of my life. The opportunity yielded experiences, friendships, knowledge, skills, humanitarianism, and a collaboration that I will forever be grateful for. When I joined the UCLA-UCSC team through Nourish International, the opportunity to work with Byoearth was a huge reason I was so excited to go to Guatemala. By working with Byoearth, each member of our team made a noticeable impact on the quality of living for women in three different communities. Byoearth's commitment to making Guatemalan lives and tierra better was encouraging, motivating, and inspiring. The vermicomposting process that I saw was developed and thorough, and really enabled our team to see how worms can improve the environment, and at the same time give business opportunities to women. Watching women in San Bartolome show up every day to feed rabbits and tend to the compost was amazing - it showed me how dedicated and wanting the women in the cooperative there were to the process. And, in Sumpango and Guatemala City, the women were so eager to learn about accounting processes and herb maintenance. The potential that Byoearth created for them is indicative of Byoearth's commitment to the local communities, and it was a pleasure and an honor to work with Byoearth's team.
