Calday Grange Grammar School

Calday Grange Grammar School has served the community of Wirral since 1636. We currently offer a free, grammar school education to nearly 1400 students, with approximately 200 boys in each of Years 7 to 11 and a mixed Sixth Form of nearly 500 students. Access to the school in Year 7 is through an 11 plus examination coordinated by the local authority. Students who wish to join the school in other year groups are required to undertake a computer-based test and achieve a set threshold. Access to the Sixth Form is based upon GCSE grades. Information regarding the school entry criteria can be found via the main School and Sixth Form Prospectuses, accessed via the links to the right of this page. Examination results at GCSE and Advanced Level are outstanding. Students make exceptional progress from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 and then on to Advanced Level. Our academic curriculum is suited to our very able students. Currently students undertake GCSEs in the English Baccalaureate subjects with all students undertaking GCSEs in the three separate Sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry). All students start off in year 7 studying two languages from a choice of French, German, Russian and Spanish plus a short course in Chinese Culture and Language. They will take a minimum of one of these languages on to GCSE level. Full details of the curriculum can be found via the Academic link at the top of this page. Whilst the school recognises that academic achievement is a priority, we strongly believe that our role is to develop people who can take their place in, and make a significant contribution to, society. The school offers a wide range of activities that seek to develop the potential that all our students possess. We base everything that we do on the principle of mutual respect. A RESPECT leaflet can be downloaded via the Parent link at the top of this page. Any judgement regarding a school should be based on its end product. Students enter the school as children and leave us as adults who have the skills to make an impact upon the world. The best advert for the school is its students. Please take the opportunity to review our website and see how the students enjoy, engage and are successful at Calday Grange Grammar School.
