Carolina Health Centers, Inc. (CHC) is a private non-profit corporation serving the healthcare needs of the residents of a seven-county area of West-Central South Carolina. You can also mail or bring it by our Administration Office (located above Uptown Family Practice): 313 Main St, Suite B Greenwood, SC 29646 CHC (formerly MEGALS Rural Health Association) was formed by a group of interested citizens and became chartered in South Carolina in June of 1977. The corporation began providing health and dental services in McCormick, Saluda, and Ware Shoals in 1980. Over the years the corporation has grown to its current size and is now providing services in ten locations throughout the service area. Our Mission Statement is "Carolina Health Centers, Inc. is a community-based non profit primary health care organization dedicated to building healthy communities and improving the individual health, wellbeing and quality of life of each person we serve." CHC is probably best described as a primary care group practice. We currently operate seven family practice centers, a large pediatric practice, and a school-based practice. Our pharmacies provides Carolina Health Center patients with medications at reduced prices. CHC has a staff of over twenty healthcare providers which includes family practice physicians, pediatricians, and nurse practitioners. Appropriate support staff are available to assist these providers at each CHC location. CHC locations accept Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurances. Our centers also offer a sliding fee discount program for eligible low income families. Carolina Health Centers participates in the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) program and is a Deemed facility. This process requires yearly review and update by the U.S. Federal Government, and holds our organization to a higher quality standard.
