Critical Care and Pulmonary Consultants, PC is an independent group of physicians trained in adult Internal Medicine. In our group, we have 4 kinds of providers - Hospitalists, Intensivists, Pulmonologists and Sleep specialists. By independent we mean that we are not employees of the hospital or your insurance plan. However, we contract with both to ensure your timely care during your hospital stay. Hospitalists are internal medicine subspecialists or family medicine subspecialists, who focus in medical care of acutely ill hospitalized people. We assume responsibility of the care of hospitalized patients for their Primary Care Provider while in the hospital. Intensivists are specially trained to care for very sick (critically ill) patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This subspecialty requires additional professional training and board certification. Pulmonologists specialize in care of people with respiratory or lung disorders. We provide consultation services to patients with lung problems in the hospital and at our clinics for out-patients. Sleep specialists undergo sub-specialty training to manage sleep related problems. This also requires additional board certification. These consultations and interpretation of sleep studies are generally performed outside the hospital. What to expect on admission: The process of admission to the hospital can be a confusing or daunting experience. Our goal is to make this an efficient and seamless transition. When appropriate and your condition allows, we work closely with your primary care provider (PCP) to expedite admission to the hospital without an emergency room visit. Our physicians will see you shortly after arrival to the hospital. Our physicians are in the hospital 24/7 directing patient admissions. We have one or more physicians dedicated to just admitting patients each day so that the patient is seen in a timely manner.
