Corozal Junior College

The campus is situated on several acres of land in the San Andres area of Corozal. Students can access the Corozal Junior College via the San Antonio Road or the College Road. In order to provide post-secondary education to students of the northern districts, the Corozal Junior College was established in September 1986 under the umbrella of the Corozal Community College. With a total enrollment of 48 students, the college opened its doors under the administration of Mr. Rosendo Urbina. Faculty members were drawn from the existing high school and from community resources. The long-standing British sixth form system was used as the basis of the academic program. At its inception, the college offered two-year programs in business studies, general studies and secretarial science. In May 1988 the Corozal Junior College proudly held its first graduation ceremony. Associate degrees were conferred to eighteen graduates as follows: eleven students received associate degrees in business studies; four in general studies and the other three students received associate degrees in secretarial science. In August 1988 the construction of the sixth form building, under contract and sub/contract by the firms of R. Mahler, A. Chin and R. Hoare (local) was fully completed. August 31, 1988 marked the historic official inauguration of the sixth form building. Since 1988, the institution has experienced significant growth and expansion in the following areas: The Corozal Junior College is managed by a Board of Governors.
