Hamilton Conservation Authority

The Hamilton Conservation Foundation (The Foundation) is a registered charity dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of the natural environment and cultural heritage within the Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) Watershed. The Foundation was established in January 1976 with the following objectives: To aid the Hamilton Conservation Authority by receiving gifts of property and money To promote the practice of conservation To assist in providing conservation education To assist in the purchase of property The Hamilton Conservation Foundation supports the HCA in pursuit of its statutory objectives. HCA develops, manages and protects significant natural resources within the Spencer, Chedoke, Red Hill, Stoney-Battlefield and Fifty Creek watersheds, and several smaller drainage areas. HCA also manages over 10,000 acres of land stretching from Grimsby to Puslinch. As the largest landowner in Hamilton, HCA manages land use and water resources in order to prevent hazards to life and property caused by flooding and erosion. The Foundation is proud to support HCA as a champion of the watershed. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised almost $6 million in several key areas - wetland acquisition, trail development and environmental education. With traditional funding sources in decline for several decades, the HCA has come to depend on self-generated revenues to further its work. The Foundation is a strategic partner with the HCA in this endeavor.
