CP Construction

C.P. Construction (Gwent) Ltd was formed as a partnership in 1971, a small business with a workforce of four people carrying out general building works on a large variety of contracts from the smallest of domestic extensions through to the building of a new Industrial Estate. The company continued working along this path for many years, until the late 90's when the works for a number of Pub Companies became more stable. The company then took advantage of this strong market picking up major contracts with a number of the pub companies for maintenance and refurbishment works. Over the next decade, we continued to work with our existing clients, but established better links with the pub companies which helped to grow the business and also helped us to ride out the biggest recession this country has seen in many long years. We are now diversifying and our work is spread more evenly across these sectors. The late 1990's and early 2000's also saw a few changes to the management of the company. One of the partners left the business in 2000, Steve Perry moved into a management position in 1999 and his wife, Ruth Perry, took over on the accounts and payroll side of things in 2000. Phil Perry gradually retired over the next few years, although he still has an interest and looks in from time to time. The company has grown steadily and now has a current workforce of 25. Many of our employees have been with us since the early days adding to the family feel of the company. Currently 40% of the workforce have been with the company for more than 10 years. We moved into our current site in Crosskeys near Newport in 1974, an excellent base to enable us to carry out works over a 70-mile radius across South Wales, Bristol and North East Somerset, and the West Midlands. The site consists of our offices, a storage yard and a joinery workshop. In June 2007, the Joinery workshop, previously rented by Oakleaf Joinery, was reopened as part of C P Construction and has had a team of Joiners working there ever since, supplying both the construction side of the business along with their own clients. In 2016 a mezzanine extension was added to the office space providing a training room and room for future expansion to the office team.
