Crooker Construction
Crooker Construction, LLC is a heavy construction and paving business that was established in 1935. At 19 years old, the young Harry Crooker had saved enough money to buy a used 1929 Ford Model 'A' dump truck. Working long hours and continuing to build his business, he had three dump trucks by 1934 and was on his way to establishing one of the most respected construction firms in Maine. Over the next 40 years Harry would work hard to add to his fleet of equipment, taking on larger and more diverse construction projects in the area. As the business grew, so did the number of employees. As soon as they were old enough to identify the business end of a spade, Harry's sons, Frank and Ted, also joined the family business. Crooker now employs roughly 150 people from the local labor force, with many having 10, 20 even 30 years of service with the company. After nearly 79 years of being a family owned business, Crooker is now under new local ownership, led by President and CEO Thomas Sturgeon, former Chief Engineer of the company. The company will continue to provide the high quality engineering, construction and paving services that Harry, Frank and Ted worked hard to establish.
