Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai, formerly known as The Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is an autonomous; not-for-profit organization established in 1909, under an act of legislation-Prince of Wales Museum Act (now known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Act) of the then-Government of Bombay and is governed by a Board of Trustees. It houses a mixed collection of 70,000 historic and artistic works of various materials and technologies. The museum raises funds for its cultural, conservation and educational activities through public support, projects, grants, and from the revenue it generates from ticket sales, exhibitions, and art events. The Museum building is a Grade I Heritage Building built in the Indo- Saracenic style. The building maintenance efforts were acknowledged at the 2010 UNESCO Asia- Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. CSMVS Museum Art Conservation Centre The establishment of CSMVS Museum Art Conservation Centre in 2008 took place under the Metro Museum Modernization Plan supported by a project grant from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Besides taking care of the Museum collection, the conservation centre is conscious of its responsibility to work together with other institutions to strengthen the art conservation movement in India. Mission Statement: CSMVS Museum Art Conservation Centre aims to spearhead heritage conservation-restoration, research & development, and training in India as well as in other nations in the region, through its work, as well as by encouraging collaborations and sharing of expertise.
