CUPA GROUP is a multinational company made up of 65 businesses with subsidiaries in 9 countries and 22 quarries. It exports to more than 70 countries on all 5 continents, employing over 2,100 people. The group's two main businesses are CUPA PIZARRAS, the world leader in natural slate, and CUPA STONE, the experts in natural stone. Slate quarrying began at Solana de Forcadas in 1892. It continues today and the company is the oldest of all those that make up the group. CUPA GROUP was formally established in 1968. It was in CUPA PIZARRAS´s DNA to become a leader in the production and marketing of roof slate. Since its creation it has focused its efforts on researching new sites with different types of slate and new production techniques in order to meet the needs of each country and each client. The company strives to guarantee production capacity by opening several quarries, which is rapidly making it a leader in the sector. During the 90s, the company focused on commercial activity and expanded its business with the creation of first sales offices and then subsidiaries in European countries such as France, Belgium and the United Kingdom. In addition to acquiring new quarries (16 in total), CUPA PIZARRAS's commitment to internationalisation was reinforced with the opening of companies in Denmark, China and the United States. CUPA STONE, the experts in natural stone, is a group of companies spanning the entire value chain of natural stone, with producers, processers, marketers and distributors in several countries, such as Spain, Portugal, France, Brazil, China, Denmark, Norway and the United States. CUPA STONE offers more than 500 natural stone products of the highest quality all over the world: granite, quartzite, sandstone and marble. The company has 6 quarries (in Spain, France, Portugal and Brazil), exports its products to almost 60 countries and has 22 distribution centres throughout Europe. Since its arrival in France in 1998, CUPA STONE has developed the largest independent distribution network of natural stone with 11 warehouses. CUPA GROUP has also expanded its position in Spain with 9 distribution centres in Madrid, Castilla y León, Galicia, Catalonia and Asturias. CUPA GROUP currently invests a great deal of effort in research and develops innovative solutions that improve energy efficiency and the sustainability of the construction industry with the creation of new products such as CUPACLAD®, the natural stone ventilated façade system; THERMOSLATE®, the only natural slate thermal solar collector on the market that can generate heat and hot water; STONEPANEL®, the pre-assembled natural stone panels for wall claddings; and STONETACK®, the first natural slate self-adhesive panel. CUPA GROUP is committed to sustainable development in all areas of business. Natural slate and stone products reduce energy consumption and have less impact on the environment because they are extracted directly from the quarry without further processing, thus reducing CO2 emissions. The sustainability of its natural products is certified by international bodies such as the Institute of Construction and the Environment (IBU) in Germany.
