The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) was formed on March 26, 2009, by merging the former Department of Natural Resources and Water and the former Environmental Protection Agency. The Department of Environment and Resource Management is responsible to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, and the Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability. The Department's role is to conserve and manage the environment and natural resources for the benefit of all Queenslanders.
