Directions
Directions was initially established in 1994 as Heritage Individual and Family Support, an organisation that recognised the need for the whole family of an individual with disability to be valued and supported. In 2008 the name was changed to Directions Family Support Association to reflect the vision of supporting people to go where they want to go, being the person they want to be, whatever the direction they should choose to go. In 2015 the name has evolved to Directions Disability Support Services to establish an understanding of what we do to assist those searching for support under the new individualised funding system. In recognition of the continued importance of supporting the whole family, the words "for individuals and families" were included in the logo. Initially Directions supported ten individuals, and we now provide services to 150 people across all of the southern and eastern suburbs down to and including Rockingham. Directions has grown, but it has sustained and maintained the quality of individualised and personal support that is flexible, creative and inclusive. Directions has worked closely over the years with both Local Area Coordinators, local government, and now My Way Coordinators. These connections are integral to Directions and assist us to provide a high quality service to the community. Directions is governed by a Board, the members of whom are deeply involved with the disability sector on a personal or professional level.
