We must view how we educate our children through a 21st century lens and take approaches that utilize new tools and information. We know that one size truly does not fit all when addressing the learning needs of our kids. Each child has unique skills that must be drawn out through evaluation and nurturing. We must embrace the future, advance policies that grow our literacy rate and increase our global competitiveness in mathematics and science. If the United States is going to maintain its traditional place as the most high-powered, dynamic economy in the world, we are going to have to increasingly become an innovation-centered economy - one driven by the creation of new ideas. We must look to promote STEM education among our young people, and improve our immigration and visa systems to ensure that the best minds from around the globe are here in the United States and remain here in our economy so that they can invent the next big thing right here in America. Our education system faces the constant challenge of attracting the best talent, determining effective ways to evaluate and incentivize performance, and directing appropriate resources to areas of need. We must make an investment in our educators and equip them with the best teaching tools available. In Illinois' 10th District, we are blessed with many exceptional schools. But since not all of our children have access to these schools, in many cases we are not serving many of their needs.
