At Durfee Magnet School, we believe that all students have a right to learn and all teachers have a right to teach. Students who behave will learn. The Durfee staff uses a systematic approach to discipline designed to help teachers deal effectively with the behavior of their students. The assertive discipline approach to classroom management used at Durfee puts the responsibility for a student's behavior where it belongs-on the student. Students will be trained in two programs: Conflict Resolution and Peer Mediation. These programs will help them take control of their actions. When a student displays acceptable behavior, positive consequences will be earned. If a student chooses to break a rule, a student chooses to accept the consequences described in the Student Discipline Policy and Procedures handbook published by Decatur Public Schools, as well as those published in the Durfee Handbook.
