Drop Cap Design

Dropcap Design was founded in 2005 by Rachel Freedman, who has more than 12 years experience in the industry. Before opening the doors to Dropcap Rachel was the lead graphic designer at Capital Community News (CCN), a newspaper publisher in Washington, D.C. While at CCN, she was responsible for the design and art direction of CCN's three monthly papers, as well as its annual Capitol Hill Community Guide. Rachel also handled advertising design for over 100 clients each month, shot photographs to accompany articles, and often took a red pen to the copy before sending files to press. Prior to CCN, Rachel worked for five years at the Center for Defense Information (CDI), a non-profit think tank in Washington, D.C. She began as an associate producer for the organization's television program "America's Defense Monitor," broadcast on PBS affiliates nationwide. In time, she took on the role of in-house graphic designer, responsible for CDI's books, monographs, newsletter and marketing collateral. While there, she was lucky to have worked with a former editor of Defense News, who taught her the importance of consistency in editorial style. Rachel graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in photography. While an undergrad, she was twice selected to appear in Who's Who of College Photography. When not pushing pixels and pencils you can find Rachel on her bike, swimming, or on the river with her rowing club.
