At District School Board Ontario North East, we are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our students through our Mental Health Strategy. Mental health is critical in the promotion of student success, well-being and achievement. Mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness. The World Health Organization describes mental health as, "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Our efforts are led by School Mental Health ASSIST, a provincial team designed to help Ontario school boards build capacity to support student mental health and well-being, through effective implementation of research based programs and strategies. Our direction is guided by our Mental Health Strategy as well as our Mental Health and Addictions Steering Committee.
