The collaboration amounts to a new Offsite Events division for TZ, for which EnJoy serves as the Producing and Directing team. So now, when a client calls Zinzanni with 850 guests in a hotel ballroom (anywhere), they can finally say "Yes, absolutely, we do that!" We've both worked as performers and directors with TZ for many years, and indeed, EnJoy Productions was hugely influenced by the immersive experience, world-class talent, and fantastic production values that TZ and its iconic Speigeltent embody. This relationship, which we've maintained and nurtured for so many years, brings even more to the fore our commitment to events that are defined by awe, wonder, beauty and humor. The depth of our relationship to this form, and to the larger performance community, inspires some philosophical waxing about the place of "events" in our culture: why we gather, how we gather, and what may be gained (or lost) in our gatherings. Our take, played out now for 3 decades, is that all events (have the potential to) contain entertainment, education, celebration and ritual. Within the balance of these components, we look to provoke new imaginings, via humor, beauty, connection and insight - about what's possible, in the direction of creating a more loving, creative, sustainable, and just world. Even in the midst of our world's hell-bent descent into chaos, we feel increasingly clear that we're joining, in our own way, a larger movement that amounts to nothing less than a rallying call for consciousness. Having begun our careers making theater and striving to coerce a ticket-buying general public to come to our self-produced shows, we now find ourselves in the world of business-to-business services. This means that our shows typically aren't open to the public. The caveat, of course, is that we get to be connected to 35+ non-profits that are doing great and vital work. But here's the thing: for better and for worse, organizations - corporate, non-profit, and civic - have a huge impact on our world. And, it is within organizations that we find ourselves having the highest leverage, and making the greatest impact. We chose, over and over again, to frame that impact with edgy humor, dangerous feats of skill, customized scenes and songs that both mock and honor our clients, and a general approach that takes great care in designing every moment of audience experience. It uses up tons of brain and heart bandwidth, and takes a consistently massive effort. But it gives back tenfold. It's a tremendous honor to work with 65 or so clients per year, of all conceivable shapes and sizes. To now be able to offer a Teatro Zinzanni/EnJoy collaboration to the world enriches the whole deal by a hearty measure. We enter this new venture with real wonder in our eyes, and a real wondering of how we can best serve the world's obvious need for belly laughter, tears, and good clean (and sometimes dirty) fun.
