Communication Unlimited, LLC provides evaluation, therapy, and consultation services for Augmentative and Alternative Communication in your Milwaukee-area home. Before we get started, we offer a complimentary meeting so we can get to know you and your interests, strengths, and needs. At the same time, you can determine if our services and approach to treatment are ewright for you. The next step would be to schedule an appointment. Appointment types include: Evaluation: The goal of an evaluation is to determine an individual's potential to use AAC. An evaluation may include formal testing, informal questionnaires, and/or opportunities to use AAC. The client and family members play an active role in the evaluation and the resulting recommendations and goals. Therapy: During therapy sessions we work towards the goals identified during the complimentary meeting or our evaluation. We may work on an individual skill or combine a few while playing a game, making a picture, sending an email, reading a magazine or other realistic-and fun-activity. If it looks like we are just playing or chatting don't worry-we are also developing better communication skills! Consultation: Consultation includes working with family members or caregivers on programming and using a communication device/app; providing training regarding good strategies to use as a communication partner; attending a meeting at school; and other indirect ways of supporting our client. Over the years, we have learned that consultation time is very important! Why do we offer home-based services? We love working in our clients' homes because home is a place where we need and want to communicate. It allows for real, motivating, and purposeful communication. When it is appropriate, we may also conduct sessions at the library, a restaurant, the mall, or other community location. This allows us to use newly learned communication skills outside of the very familiar home environment and with less familiar communication partners. We encourage family members, friends, and caregivers to participate in sessions. This helps to provide real-life opportunities for communication. It also helps communication partners feel more comfortable with the strategies and techniques we are trying. Plus, it will be fun! What do these services cost?
