Erebus Motorsport

Erebus Motorsport created another slice of V8 Supercars history today after pilots Lee Holdsworth and Will Davison recorded a memorable 1-2 in practice on the opening day of the Townsville 500. In a slick display of front-running pace in their Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs, the pair set the tone for a promising weekend with Holdsworth recording the fastest time of the day with a 1.13.7919 lap around the Townsville street circuit and teammate Davison just 0.0864 seconds behind in second position. The performance acts as a further sign of the team's continued progress since a history-making debut V8 Supercars win by Holdsworth in Winton in April and consistent top-10 results for both drivers during the first half of the Championship. It also continued the pair's fondness of the Townsville circuit, with Holdsworth recording his first ever pole position at the track in the event's inaugural year in 2009 and Davison scoring a race win last year as well as featuring on the podium four times since 2009. Holdsworth said it was a positive start to the weekend for the whole Erebus team, although conceding he was trying not to get too carried away the result before qualifying. "It's exciting for our team when you hit little milestones like that and it means a lot to everyone involved," said Holdsworth. "To see we are progressing forward and hitting new goals is fantastic - it's a real confidence booster for the team. "I've always loved this circuit. In 2009 I was able to take out the first pole which was the first of my career and I have a really good memory of that. I had a really good run in the race until I had an engine issue so I feel like that was one of the ones that got away and I have always been trying to get on the podium ever since. "I feel like it's a more realistic opportunity this weekend than has been in the last couple of years so we will just keep punching forward and see where we end up. "It's a good start, we haven't had an Erebus 1-2 in any practice sessions this year, or any sessions at all, so it's a really good boost for the team at the start of the weekend. "I just hope we can carry our form through.
