Erfurt
The paper factory, Erfurt & Sohn KG, was founded in 1827. In 1864, Hugo Erfurt, grandson of the company's founder, developed a new product called Rauhfaser. The material was first used as a decorative paper for display windows and as a base paper for collotype wallpapers. In the 1920s, its advantages in at-home décor were discovered. Painted in individual colours, it was possible to achieve unique effects in each room. Unique effects can be created in a room by painting the wallpaper in different colours.
