Erickson's Flooring & Supply

Erickson's Flooring & Supply

Erickson's Flooring and Supply was started in 1943 by Mr. Art Erickson. The first company office was Art's side porch. Art's Norwegian family had a strong heritage in the wooden boat building industry, so working with wood was second nature for Art. Erickson's started laying, sanding and finishing solid wood floors. The end of World War II brought a group of northern Michigan veterans to Detroit in search of work. Primarily of Scottish and Finish woodworking backgrounds, these veterans were accustomed to honest hard work and quality craftsmanship. Erickson's became their home. By the 1960's, Erickson's was running forty crews under Leonard Howay's direction. When Art retired in 1971, he turned the business over to Leonard. Four years later, Erickson's began to devote itself strictly to wood flooring distribution. In the late 70's, Dick Walters began as a salesman at Erickson's, after a 15-year sales career with Hartco. In 1983 Dick and Diane Walters took a deep breath, and with all their savings, purchased Erickson's. As their children grew up, they began pitching in at the family business. A lot of hard work and sacrifice later, Erickson's has grown from a local family business into one of the top Midwest wholesale flooring distributors. Gradually, Erickson's expanded into distributing more than just wood flooring. In the mid 90's, Erickson's opened branch locations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chicago and the newest in Indianapolis. Today, Erickson's has a team of over 60 employees servicing retailers and flooring contractors in four states.
