The Equality Act 2010 places an obligation (General Equality Duty) on public authorities such as ESNEFT to positively promote equality for the nine protected characteristics. The protected characteristics covered by the Equality Duty are: Age Disability Gender reassignment Marriage and civil partnership (but only in respect of eliminating unlawful discrimination) Pregnancy and maternity Race (this includes ethnic or national origins, colour or nationality) Religion or belief Sex Sexual Orientation ESNEFT is required by law to pay 'due regard' to: Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act. Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. In addition to the General Equality Duty, the Trust is subject to the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) which requires us to: Annually publish information to demonstrate its compliance with the general equality duty by 31 January (and annually thereafter). Prepare and publish one or more objectives, at least every four years thereafter. The objectives must be specific and measurable. This year's information report provides assurance to the Trust Board, our diverse workforce and all stakeholders that we are committed to complying with our Equality Duties. This year will be ESNEFT's first Equality Information Report (2018-2019), we have focused on giving a high level summary of our workforce and service use data.
