Festival of Museums

Over a single weekend in May, Scotland's museums come together to throw open their doors, vaults and imaginations to celebrate the magic of history, heritage, and science. Museums are encouraged to let their hair down, take risks and try something new. Whether you're a culture vulture looking for your latest museums fix, or a family looking for a fun and educational day out, Festival of Museums has something for you. Highlights of previous festivals have included a pirate themed treasure hunt for tots, a boozy late night 20's themed extravaganza, and an incredible vintage funfair for all the family. These are museums as you've never seen them before. Organised by national development body Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), Festival of Museums has been around since 2006, It has grown steadily over the past 12 years to include over 150 events in 2017. Museums across the country organise their own events under the banner of Festival of Museums, benefitting from a national marketing campaign as well as support, advice and funding from MGS. Festival of Museums takes place the weekend following International Museums Day, and ties in with Museums at Night and its European equivalent La Nuit Des Musées. In the know
