First Independent Power

Incorporated in 2006, First Independent Power Limited is a licensed power generation company which owns and operates power plants in Rivers State, Nigeria. From quite a small beginning but with a clear vision, FIPL's installed generation assets have swelled to over 0.5GW spread across five power stations. Following the privatization of the electricity industry in Nigeria, Sahara Power which is the leading industry player in Nigeria, moved to expand their already vast portfolio by acquiring the majority stakes in FIPL. Since then, the "Sahara Spirit" has been made to flow freely in FIPL bringing about significant changes in management, organizational structure and human resources which have transformed FIPL into a world class entity. At FIPL, we harness the intellectual and social energies of our people in collaborative and synergistic ways to optimize productivity in power generation for the much needed socio-economic growth of Nigeria. Our contribution to national development goes beyond electricity generation as we touch the lives of many people through our various corporate social efforts spear-headed by our parent company, Sahara Group. Through FIPL and other existing power assets in her portfolio, Sahara Power is poised to be the biggest industry contributors to the economic growth of Africa in the power sector.
