First Step Greenhouses

Initially, First Step Greenhouses was a specialized grower of annual bedding plant plugs. As of 2004 we also began offering Vegetative Annuals, Perennials and an expanded Herb line. We sell direct and founded our business and procedures from information taken from growers who were dissatisfied with their current suppliers. Our goal is to provide the highest quality transplant available and to far exceed the customer service levels that supplier/broker relationships offer. We offer a complete line of plugs available in 512, 288 and 144 trays as well as liners in a 50 strip. First Step Greenhouses produces plugs 52 weeks a year and publishes an availability list weekly. Located in Southern California, we are able to offer a highly toned, quality plug. Being southern grown also means each plant has more accumulated energy and will transplant and grow-out quicker. To achieve the goal of quality; we constructed a state of the art facility with automated controls, germination chambers, controlled seed storage, Dutch benching, irrigation booms, a water treatment facility, and committed personnel. We located the greenhouses in a Southern California inland valley where there are always high light levels and cool nights for ideal growth and tone. We perform numerous quality and inventory checks during the crop, including re-fixing every tray to 100%. To achieve the goal of service; we identified the major complaints heard throughout the industry and designed a system to remove them. Through Direct Sales and Customer Service we eliminated the need for brokers. When you call us regarding an order, you are talking to someone who lives and breaths the plugs in question. Our goals are as follows: 1. We will never change, sub or short ship an order with out notifying you. 2. You will receive confirmation of your order within 24 hours, most often in less than an hour. 3. We will track your trays throughout production and notify you of any problems. 4. When you call us, you will always talk to a knowledgeable person who cares about your business. The combination of these goals has created a loyal customer base and a hard to duplicate track record. We deliver over 98% of orders on time and fulfill over 99% of all orders. We also have the benefit of continually improving our operations by working first hand with our customers.
