The Guild of Battlefield Guides

The Guild of Battlefield Guides

The Guild of Battlefield Guides was founded in 2001. We are a thriving community of over 300 Members, all supporting each other in the exchange of information, expertise, and knowledge. Our aim is to analyse, develop and raise the understanding and practice and profession of battlefield guiding, and to promote the education of battlefield visitors and students in military history. Our Members come from all walks of life, all over the world - many of us have a military or academic background - but we all have some things in common: enthusiastic regard for military history and a desire to ensure the wartime sacrifices of past generations are remembered accurately. The Guild's badge is a symbolic statement about a commitment to high-quality battlefield guiding - we wear it with pride. The International Guild of Battlefield Guides isn't a regulatory body, but we do run a high standard Accreditation Programme. Our 'badged Guides' have demonstrated their capabilities not just in interpreting the past, but also in offering a professional battlefield tour. We want to promote a shared perception about good practice in battlefield guiding, and all of our Members have opportunities to enhance their skills and share their experiences. Our Associate Members benefit from access to professional development, and the opportunity to develop particular areas of battlefield interest and knowledge.
