Glacier, which provides specialist services for energy infrastructure, is one of the fastest-growing providers of specialist onsite machining and equipment to the international energy sector and is ramping up its presence in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Roberts Machining Solutions has been formed to consolidate the activities of industry-leading businesses Roberts Pipeline Machining, one the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of precision portable machining, flange facing and pipe-coating removal equipment; and Site Machining Services, the specialist on-site engineering service provider. The new division is led by managing director Mark Derry, previously head of Glacier's offshore division, who leads the business as it builds on its industry-leading reputation in the UKCS and moves into new markets. Under a new partnership, leading Australian company Scope Engineering will provide onsite services and offer training on behalf of Roberts Machining Solutions, including training for clients' technicians, working closely with Glacier's South East Asia base in Singapore. Scott Martin, executive chairman of Glacier, says: "Mark's appointment as MD of Roberts Machining Solutions is a key move following his work at the helm of our original offshore division, as we grow the combined business in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, building on their domestic success in the UKCS. "Scope Engineering provide an excellent strategic link, augmenting the onsite machining division as its specialist team delivers expertise across the region and its resource base is a significant addition to our network as we secure new contracts through Roberts Machining Solutions." Glacier has also appointed Kevin Strachan as regional manager for the Middle East, based in Dubai, for Roberts Machining Solutions. He has more than six years' experience in the region, after beginning his career in energy in Aberdeen and the Caspian. Mark Derry, managing director of Roberts Machining Solutions, says: "There is massive potential across the Middle East and Asia Pacific, where we are already delivering solutions for major capital projects which play a key role in delivering to the energy needs of the region. "We recently secured a significant contract to provide Roberts machines to two closely-linked projects in the region - the construction of the Dampier to Banbury gas pipeline; and the major Wheatstone subsea project which feeds into the pipeline from the Carnarvon Basin. "Across all of our activities our focus is on delivering related, complementary services under one roof, providing added value to operators and other service company clients by mobilising, often at very short notice, bespoke and off-the-shelf solutions which minimise non-productive time on key assets in exploration and production operations."
