Germantown School District

The Germantown Police Department provides regular police service and office hours 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have 42 employees of which 32 are sworn officers. We have a variety of new programs to serve the public that we are particularly proud of. With total community funding and support we have created a K-9 unit. Our K-9 Officer Bosco and his handler Officer Jeff Schnell are here to serve this community and others in time of need. The dedicated men and women of GPD have also developed and instructed new programs for our community such as the Citizen Police Academy. Some of our more established programs are the Germantown Police Explorers and Bike Safety Programs. GPD also has a New Police Chaplain Program. Chaplain Greg Young has become an extremely valuable asset not only to this department but to this community as well. Chaplain Young is assisted by Chaplain Dave Berghuis and Chaplain Jim Sukup. We have a DARE Program that is taught by Detective Penny Schmitt and our Crime Prevention Officer Ray Borden who is responsible for a number of the above listed programs. As you can see by just listing some of the many programs our department is involved in, "Community Policing" is not just the newest fad or buzz word for this department. We believe in the philosophy of "getting back to basics," working and networking with the community we police.
