The Harley School

The Harley School is a private, independent, college preparatory day school located in Rochester, New York (approximately a six hour drive west of New York City). It was founded in 1917. Our rigorous academic programs and exceptional fine arts curriculum are coupled with unique course offerings (hospice, glass-making, chess, organic gardening, boat-building, and robotics to name a few), a commitment to community service, and a nurturing environment for students. In addition to an excellent selection of courses, the Harley curriculum provides the learning and research skills necessary for students to enter American colleges or universities with confidence. Harley students have the freedom to choose advanced level and elective courses in all departments. Each student has a faculty advisor who helps him/ her develop an academic program. The advisor and college counselor insure that the student's schedule will prepare her/ him for college as well as develop his/ her areas of personal interest. Many go on to attend some of the most selective American universities and colleges. Formal college counseling begins in the junior year. The college counselor coordinates visits to Harley by college admissions officers, advises students on application procedures, and writes a comprehensive recommendation for each senior, based on the student's academic record and teachers' written evaluations. The Harley School accepts international students in Grades 8 through 11. To obtain a Harley School diploma, all students must spend a minimum of two years at the campus. Non-degree/ non-diploma candidates wishing to spend one year at Harley as a gap year or as an exchange student may join the senior class.
