The Harrodian School

The Harrodian School is focused on the all-round wellbeing of its students. We believe in a holistic approach to education, teaching values and building character in addition to our academic programme. The pastoral life of the School includes: Sessions such as Circle Time (Pre-Prep and Lower Prep / Years Reception to 6) and Form Time (Upper Prep, Senior and Sixth Form) that are dedicated to the personal wellbeing and development of our pupils. A timetabled weekly Citizenship lesson for the 13s (Year 9) Drop-in sessions available to discuss personal health concerns A School Counsellor who is available to all students - operating a self-referral system that allows 11s (Year 7) through to Upper Sixth to 'drop in' for sessions. Pupils in the Lower Prep (8s - 10s) and Pre-Prep require consent from a parent/guardian. Prefects who are dedicated to working with younger pupils and to performing functional /non-academic roles that support school life. Prefects in the 15s (Year 11) are assigned to a form, from Reception to the 12s. They act as mentors for pupils but also assist Form Teachers and support general class activity. Senior Prefects (Sixth Form) and their Committee are empowered to influence and manage specific areas of school, devise and conduct events, and engage with the local community. Mentoring programmes run throughout the year and are led by Senior Prefects under the direction of two members of staff. Senior School students are selected and trained to provide one-to-one mentoring, and coaching for pupils across the school. They also run inductions for our Prep pupils, in particular for the 11s (Year 7) cohort which receives a large intake of new pupils. Student Council and focus groups that offer a forum for student feedback. Staff and student training in Mindfulness and Life Coaching Student Leadership programmes provide the 15s (Year 11) and Sixth Formers with the opportunity for personal development. They can apply for roles as Subject, Sports or Community Leaders. This is an area of the School that has grown substantially in recent years and will continue to be prioritised. In our most recent Ofsted Inspection (2012) the pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development was pronounced 'outstanding,' - affirmation of the Harrodian's ongoing commitment to pastoral care.
